Reasons why I love nads (500 words) (actually 611 but who cares)

Ok so firstly the reasons I’m writing this is to a) spite nads and b) because I love her, I really really don’t know where to start with you nads i srsly love you so so much but I guess I’m breaking down into extreme detail my favorite things about you, i guess I’ll start with how beautiful you are and get into the deeper stuff later, first of all you have the most beautiful eyes ever, there brown colour just has something so comforting about them that makes me feel so safe and happy, I’d do anything to see them in real life one day, or to hug you, I don’t really mind I’ll take either, but your hair looks so shiny?!? Like it looks so smooth and amazing, my ratty hair could never. Ok now I’ve talked about how amazingly beautiful you are I want to talk about how happy you make me, you honestly make me so so happy nads, whenever we talk I have the biggest most stupidest grin on my face ever, you’d probably say I’m pathetic for wanting for you to love me but idc because I love you and you make me so so happy, you deserve to be loved, not just loves, but you deserve everything from a hot chocolate and a snuggly blanket to a perfect life, In my eyes you are quite literally an angel in disguise, kind of like my own personal angel though, anyway next I’ve compiled a list of song lyrics I’d like to dedicate to you, my little Christmas tree:

You had just gotten your hands on Hombres g new album. It wasn’t easy to get it since not many people listen to their music but you were glad that you found it.

Whenever you get a new album you always run to your room and listen to it at full blast. Having it on repeat until you finally memorize the lyrics. Not this time, no, you decided to drive to Eddie’s trailer

During your drive you had to stop yourself from getting a quick peek at the album songs. In order to stop yourself, you softly drummed your fingers on the steering wheel while trying to think of something else.

Aside from being together with Eddie for a while now, yet you never got the chance to share your favorite songs with him. Even though you also listen to rock music, you weren’t sure if he would be a big fan of Spanish rock music.

As soon as his trailer came to view, you parked your car carelessly. Grabbing the album you got out of the car and locked it. You took long strides towards his door, once you stood in front of it you lifted up your hand to knock.

You heard some footsteps approaching and as they gradually got closer, you were bouncing on your feet with excitement.

Once Eddie opened the door you squeezed your way through to get to his room. He was confused and cautiously walked behind you. As he did that, he kept on wondering if he did anything to get you mad. Since you didn’t even greet him, just stormed past him. At least that’s what he interpreted as.

“Is everything ok…” He asked as he finally reached his bedroom.

Instead of answering, you got the record out and inserted it on his record player.

Within a few seconds the music began to play causing Eddie to give you a questioning look. He still wasn’t sure what you were doing.

Stepping back you handed Eddie the album to show him what you were listening to.

Eddie grabbed it with a look of confusion he wasn’t sure how to pronounce the name that was written on the front.

You walked over to the edge of his bed and took a sit. You patted the space next to you so he could take a sit as well. He walked slowly towards you and sat down before looking up at you.

“What is this?” He asked. It wasn’t in a rude way but more of curiosity.

“It’s hombres g, duh. Have you never heard of them?” You asked.

“Mmm no, I’m afraid I’m not familiar with their work.” He answered truthfully.

You let out a gasp, you thought that maybe someone might’ve mentioned them before. Yet you were proven wrong. You got up and raise the volume, not too loud. Just loud enough for the both of you to hear.

As the music played you kept on moving your body to the rhythm. From the corner of your eye you could see how Eddie was bopping his head.

Once the album finished played you turned to face him with a bright smile

“So, what did you think?” You asked

“I think it was the most amazing thing I have ever heard. Drastic change from Iron Maiden and… you know my type of music.” He spoke slowly while flickering his gaze around his room to show you what he meant. “Could we, listen to it again?” He asked rather sheepishly.

You didn’t say anything just let out a squeal as you stood up to put the music once more. Once that was done, you went back to sitting next to him and you’re not sure how but you felt your body fill itself with more excitement as before.

When the song Te quiero started playing, you felt yourself getting familiarized to the song. You started off by mumbling the lyrics before gradually signing them loudly.

Even if you weren’t the best singer, Eddie would do anything just to hear you sing forever. In his eyes, there wasn’t anything that you could do wrong.

He let out a heartfelt laugh, you looked over at him with a smile while still singing. He mustered enough courage to try and sing along with you. At least the words that he learned from those years he had to repeat his Spanish class.

His pronunciation wasn’t the best but it brought you so much joy seeing that he was trying his best for you. Although he didn’t need to, he always made you happy no matter what.

That may be the reason why you singed the chorus a bit louder than the rest of the song. You’re not sure how much Eddie was able to understand but you could see in his eyes the affection they held whenever he sang the words ‘te quiero’.

When the album finished, once more, you and Eddie were now laying on his bed. Even if the only thing the two of you did was sing, it drained you both to a certain extent. Just as the two of you caught your breath, Eddie stood up and said:

“Hombres g… I might need to buy my own albums. Tell me, do you have more I could listen to?”

“Is that my hoodie you’re wearing?” Kai exclaimed incredulously when you opened the bathroom, his eyes adjusting to bright light that illuminated your dark figure.

You raised an eyebrow in response, smirking with pride as your hands sneakily crept up to switch off the light. “Why? Are you scared that I’m wearing it better than you?” The slight yellowness of the bathroom light flickered a little before shutting down, and once you were sure all the lights were off you slowly tiptoed to where your boyfriend was laying, not without fumbling around and knocking stuff over. That was a problem every night- it would be much easier if you could somehow see in the dark. 

Kai laughed a little bit when you swore under your breath, his voice bouncing off the white walls, before you joined in as well. He carefully tugged the covers up so you could get in beside him without harm- since almost breaking something was just on your mind tonight. 

“Mind telling me why you’re wearing one of my favorite hoodies today, baby?” He muttered almost whisper-like, wrapping his arms around you as soon as you were able to get into the bed. The blankets covered you both perfectly, but you shimmied a little bit in the covers a little before becoming truly comfortable.

“Hmm, I thought it was mine...?” Your voice trailed away, practically teasing him as he rolled his eyes in the dark.

“Tell me the real reason,” he said immediately, seeing clearly through your lies as you bit back a few chuckles. 

Getting closer to him, you laid your head on his gently whilst sighing with relief. On the other hand Kai was waiting almost impatiently for your response, clearing his throat and you could honestly say what was on your heart. 

“It’s warmer this way,” you smiled softly, burying your nose in his scent as you relished in how his arms tenderly hugged you back.

There was a comfortable silence between the two of you and for a second there you assumed he just fell asleep before he started giggling and shaking his head excitedly. Wow, and that was enough to make his heart beat faster. That didn’t mean you blamed him though- if he said the same thing, your heart would’ve been racing as well.

“Warmer than all of your plushies combined...” you teased, trying to sneak in one last joke before getting some inevitable shut eye. 

“Hey, now that’s crossing the line!” Kai yelled, causing you to break out into laughter. A few moments later the two of you were settling down, tired from the day’s exhausting events, though happy you were able to spend the night together like always. Sleep practically lingered on both of your eyes and you were too tired to say anything. Yet he cuddled you with so much love, holding you in his arms as your fingers delicately combed through his hair. 

It was warm. You felt loved and you were sure with by how he kissed you the last time for the day on your forehead- that he was feeling warm and loved too.

ok I’ll elaborate. The Squire’s Tales series is a 10-book YA series by a man who imprinted on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (the ancient poem) as a college student and never stopped stanning Gawain since (as is correct). The pivot character of the series, pov of the first two and final two books, is Terence, a boy/young man who shortly into the first book becomes squire to Gawain, who at that point is not in fact knighted yet. The books follow first their adventures and then a wide assortment of other, mostly more esoteric Arthurian tales, mostly during Camelot’s golden age, with the power move of leaving Arthur himself—and the Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot triangle—mostly in the background. Other key features include but are not limited to:

Blithe disregard for historical accuracy is second only to T.H. White’s The Once and Future King (which iconically conflates Uther Pendragon with William the Conquerer)

The basic premise of every book is 2-3 people with probably one brain cell each go on a quest with 1-2 people with no brain cells whatsoever, and meet MANY more people with no brain cells whatsoever, and try to help them with kindness understanding, and a healthy amount of swords and fairy magic

Also every single POV character except one either starts out, becomes (usually by marriage), or is revealed to have secretly been the whole time part of the extended Orkney-Pendragon family

I wish the fairy worldbuilding was more complex than “Seelie good, Unseelie bad”, and Morgause and Mordred more complex than “ambitious and ruthless.” But the GOOD character tales include Gawain (natch), Arthur, Guinevere, my favorite Morgan le Fay in any Arthur retelling ever, Kay, Lancelot (redemption arc!), ALL the Orkney boys actually (Gawain + Agravain, Gaheris, Gareth), Parsifal (Percival), Dinadan who I wouldn’t otherwise know, Galahad, and also some fucking excellent OCs in Terence, Eileen, and Sarah…

Merlin is likewise mostly omitted; in fact he peaces out at the end of the first book to go have an extended honeymoon with the Lady of the Lake (here called Nimue)

Representation Roundup(TM): mostly white people but Palamedes is there (the one notably Moorish knight), and he’s one of the people with a brain cell. No queer people—it’s YA from the 90s/2000s—EXCEPT (light spoilers) Dinadan and Brangienne are as aro as they come, and best friends and it’s great. 3 of 7 pov characters (3 of 10 books) are women, and the other books are full of complex female characters. Literally book 1 is Gawain doing the hag/maiden “what all women want is to get what they want” quest and that sets the tone. Religion-wise, per aforementioned blithe disregard for historical accuracy, Christianity is encroaching awkwardly, mostly politely, into territory where fairy folk still roam; Sarah doesn’t identify as Jewish but the fact that her foster-father Mordecai very much was is a big part of her character and story.

Fair warning, it IS a “magic will now fade from the world” ending—but, per classic Arthurian legend, a return is promised…and the important thing, each book makes clear, was never the magic itself, but the people who met it. If the mother and father are loving, if the priest is good, and the storyteller sings his songs well of what was and what can be again…then we will all see tomorrow, and it may even be better than today.

Srsly, special mention to Morgan: She’s in love with Arthur but unfortunately a) he’s her brother and b) he doesn’t feel the same, so she just periodically drops in to bother her favorite nephew (Gawain), mentor young witches, and continue delaying her required-by-Fairy-law choice between the Seelie and Unseelie courts.

First off, I'm a HUGE fan of I'll be the frosting to your cupcake, one of the first fics I reread and a comfort fic staple of mine from the on.

Having said that, I recently learned English isnt your first language, and I'm shook. How do you write in such a flowy ample vocabulary precise english? Are you half British or sth? Have you live outside of Italy? What's your secret? What are your tips, please help a sister in need!

first of all thank you so much you're too kind ;v; and I'm really happy that it's been... ALMOST TEN YEARS and it still holds up ;v;

that said hahaha well I'M VERY HAPPY I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY MASTERED THE POWER OF NOT MAKING IT KNOWN ENGLISH IS NOT MY MOTHER TONGUE MUAHAHAH but in all seriousness:

no I'm not half british, my aunt was a high school english teacher but that was it and she definitely didn't speak english to me growing up beyond giving me the basics

no I haven't lived outside Italy just been on vacation in english speaking places so those two guesses aren't correct but

take into account that I'm 33 and I started learning english srsly when I was like twelve and I started writing in english when I was.... nineteen going on twenty so the way I write now is because I pretty much wrote in english nonstop since then, obviously whatever I wrote in 2007 had a worse vocabular/wasn't as good as it is now so count that a lot of that is practice

now basically i know it'll sound like ARE YOU SERIOUS but: I learned first translating songs by hand which meant I spent two years with a vocabulary translating bruce springsteen's and bon jovi's opera omnia that I had booklets for (YES THE INTERNET WAS ON 56K I HAD THE DAMNED LYRIC BOOKLETS RIP) and that.. I mean it didn't give me the widest vocab ever but it got me started, and then I jumped the bridge and started reading in english at.... eh I was 15 but like I got into stephen king, read a few of his books in italian, then got one I already had in italian in english for kicks and realized it... was better not translated so I swallowed the whole OH GOD I WON'T UNDERSTAND 1/5TH OF THE WORDS thing and went for it and like I can 100% assure you that if you get through the dark tower's second book and the indecent level of nyc slang in it you won't ever go back

(then being a masochist I went straight for steinbeck and if you manage the grapes of wrath at the level I was you're good X°D)

now like... that shows because every single time I take english tests like HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE WORDS/WHAT IS YOUR WORDING CHOICE/WHAT DOES YOUR WRITING SOUND LIKE I without fail get as results that I pronounce like someone from new jersey/pennsylvania and I use words like someone from maine and that I read like king which... LIKE I LEARNED 95% OF MY ENGLISH on all of that so that makes sense

now the thing is after king I basically went like okay if that writer's english or writes in english I'm not checking the translations so basically I've read in english for twenty years and like... if you want to write you have to read and like I swear that when I was in high school I didn't need to open grammar books beyond the basics or actually study english at all bc having actually read stuff I like... having seen the word/expressions used on paper meant I knew how to use them so there was that but like the point is that if you read a lot your vocabulary automatically gets wider and if you see how published people you like write that helps you too because it gives you the background, makes you see how people break the rules etc

with this I mean... like you know everyone is like YOU HAVE TO WRITE SHORT SENTENCES IN ENGLISH UNLESS YOU'RE A CLASSICAL AUTHOR OR YOU'RE WRONG? okay like I always struggled with it bc I tend to be long-winded, then one day I ran into michael chabon who not only has the kind of refined vocab I can only dream of, but he also has no issue dropping six-lines long sentences (or a 12 pages stream of consciousness of a parrot without a dot bless him) and he won a pulitzer prize and while I am certainly not michael chabon and I can only dream of being 10% as good when it comes to that mix of craft, if he can do that then who stops me from six-lines sentences? yeah, no one XD

and I mean like... just to say one re how you re-elaborate things, the whole thing I do with using parentheses on another new line to say how characters are feeling or switch pov for a moment etc etc is a thing I absolutely lifted from king bc when I read him doing it I decided it was genius, but like at some point I started doubling or tripling the parentheses if I wanted to show what someone was thinking superficially and subconsciously which is a thing king doesn't do but at some point it happened and I liked it so I did it, and that's like the only conscious example I can give you but like you develop your style also based on what you like reading and what comes easy to you but that's things you find out through practice and again... if you like specific writers most likely it'll show up in your writing but that's fine everyone has their role models

also like... I personally don't gaf if supposed english tradition says I can't do something I'd do writing in italian ie abusing semicolons and long-winded sentences, like... if you're good at specific thing that your language allows and english doesn't don't gaf and write it in english anyway who cares

tldr the tips are: read a lot in english, consume a lot of media in english, practice a lot because you get better/get the hand of it with time (again if you read my lost fanfic on lj written in 2008-2011 it's nowhere near the same level as what I write now but not even the stuff I wrote in my spn days is at the level I am now etc), read a lot also in your own language or in any other you know, write as much as you can, if you feel like you're copying your favorite writer don't gaf and go ahead anyway at some point you'll sound like you and not like whoever your fave writer is and be constant because again 50% is reading a lot and 50% is practice, I know it sounds like the discovery of hot water but I swear I managed that without living anywhere else and only reading/writing/talking to people on the internet so... it does work X°D

2 books the Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov I have made loving this book a big part of my personality, please read it. the Devil comes to Moscow and has a lovely time causing chaos. it's a GREAT satire. plus, one of the characters is a huge black cat who loves chess and vodka.

Dracula by Bram Stoker my brother gave this book to me a while ago, and I finally got around to reading it last year. it was fun to read and see themes that are considered played out now, but they come directly from this novel.
